This article covers the messages you can see in AI Chat, which opens from the AI icon in the AI App top bar or from the AI Chat card. For how to use AI Chat, see Using AI Chat.
Company memory in the chat
The memory switcher in the message bar shows which company memory the chat uses. When there is no memory to show, it shows one of the states below instead.
"Set up memory"
What it means: The tooltip reads "No memory for [company] yet". The selected company has no AI Memory, so answers won't include company knowledge.
What to do: Click Set up memory to open AI Memory, then build the memory. The fastest route is to crawl and approve the website. See What AI Memory is and how it is organised and Approving a website crawl.
"Memory unavailable"
What it means: The tooltip reads "Couldn't load the memory for [company]". The memory exists or should exist, but the chat couldn't load it.
What to do: Click Memory unavailable to retry. If it stays unavailable, close AI Chat, reload the AI App and open the chat again. If the problem continues, contact the UP-TO-DATE support team.
"Memory…"
What it means: The chat is still loading the company's memory.
What to do: Wait a few seconds before sending your first message, so the answer uses the company memory.
The chat talks about the wrong company
What it means: AI Chat uses the company and website selected in the AI App when you open it.
What to do: Close AI Chat, pick the right website in the site selector in the top bar, then open AI Chat again. If the website has its own memory, that one is used. See Company memories, site memories and your personal memory.
"Failed to save memory: ..."
What it means: Save to Memory couldn't store the fact. The text after the colon gives the reason.
What to do: Try again. If you only have view access to the company's memory, ask a company owner or admin for edit access. See Troubleshooting: AI Memory.
Attachments
"Maximum of 5 files can be uploaded at once. Only the first 5 will be processed."
What it means: You added more than 5 files in one go. Only the first 5 were attached.
What to do: Attach the remaining files in a later message, or combine them into fewer files.
"Unsupported file type: ..."
What it means: One or more files are a type the chat can't read. The message lists the supported types: images, .pdf, .txt, .md, .json, .csv, .xlsx, .xls, .docx, .srt and .mp3.
What to do: Convert the file to one of these types. For example, save a .doc or .pages file as .docx or PDF.
"Failed to upload [file name]", "Could not upload the image. Please try again." or "Failed to process files"
What it means: The file didn't reach the chat, often because of a connection hiccup or a very large file.
What to do: Try again. If a large file keeps failing, split it or reduce its size.
Sending messages and using replies
"Failed to send message" or "Something went wrong, please try again later."
What it means: The message or the answer couldn't be completed.
What to do:
Click Retry on the reply, or send the message again.
If it keeps failing, start a new chat. Very long conversations and many attachments make requests heavier.
Reload the AI App and open AI Chat again.
"This feature is only available when you connect your website."
What it means: You clicked Publish as blog post on a reply, but no website is selected in the AI App. A blog post always belongs to a website.
What to do: Click Connect site to connect a website, or click Cancel, select an existing website in the top bar and try again. See Choosing your company and website.
"Copy failed, please grant permission to access clipboard"
What it means: Your browser blocked Copy.
What to do: Allow clipboard access for this site in your browser settings, or select the text and copy it by hand.
"Download failed."
What it means: The reply couldn't be saved as a file.
What to do: Try again. If your browser blocks downloads for this site, allow them in the browser settings.
