Every website on the platform comes from a real, tested CMS connection. You connect it from Accounts, and the sites & blog API (uptodateconnect.com) checks the credentials against the CMS and stores the connection. This article covers the flow that is the same for every CMS. The per-CMS guides cover the fields.
Before you start
You need to be an Owner or Admin of the company, or an Owner or Admin of its agency.
Have the CMS credentials ready. See Required technical access (before you start).
Where to open Connect a Site
From the company (recommended)
In Accounts, go to Companies > open the company.
Open the Websites tab and click Connect a Site.
A window titled "Connect a site to" followed by the company name opens.
On the company's Overview tab, the Websites tile offers the same window: Add a website when the company has no sites yet, or Add when it has some.
From the Websites list
Go to Websites > All Websites and click Connect a Site. The button only shows if you are an Owner or Admin of at least one company.
Under Company, choose the company the site belongs to.
Note: Websites are never added with a manual form. A website record only exists when a working CMS connection is behind it.
Tip: In the AI App, the Connect your website. link in the top bar (shown when no site is selected) opens the same form for the selected account.
What you see in the form
If the company has no connected sites yet, the form opens straight away.
If it already has sites, you first see Connected Sites, with a Settings button and a disconnect icon for each site. Click Connect New Site to add another.
Under Select your CMS, choose WordPress, Drupal, Craft CMS, Wix, Webflow or Odoo. The fields change with your choice, and an integration guide for that CMS appears next to the form.
Step by step
Select the CMS. Switching to another CMS clears any earlier test result.
Fill in the fields. The per-CMS guides explain each one.
Click Test Connection. It becomes clickable once the required fields are filled in. The form shows "Testing connection...".
Read the result. A passed test shows the success message with "You can now connect your site to the app." A failed test shows the reason with "Please fix the connection issues before attempting to connect."
For WordPress, an ACF Support section appears after a passed test. For Webflow, the field mapping appears. Complete these if they apply.
Click Connect. It stays disabled until the test has passed. The button shows "Connecting..." while the site is saved.
In Accounts, the window closes and the new site appears in the company's Websites list.
Nothing is saved when you only run the test. The connection is stored when you click Connect.
What Test Connection checks
CMS | What the test does |
|---|---|
WordPress | Checks that |
Drupal | Opens the API prefix, creates an unpublished "Test Article" of the chosen content type, then deletes it. |
Craft CMS | Reads entries in the blog section, saves a disabled "Test Entry", then deletes it. |
Webflow | Reads the items of the collection with your token. |
Odoo | Signs in with the API key and checks the user can read blog posts. |
Wix |
Multilingual WordPress: the handler plugins
Standard WordPress publishing needs nothing installed. To link or push translations, some translation plugins need a small handler plugin from UP-TO-DATE.
Translation plugin | Handler plugin | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
WPML | WPML Translation Linker | The REST endpoint |
TranslatePress | TranslatePress UTD Integration | The REST endpoint |
Polylang | None | Translations are linked through the standard WordPress REST API. |
Both handler endpoints refuse users without the edit_posts capability, so connect with a user who can edit posts.
To install a handler plugin:
Ask the UP-TO-DATE support team for the current plugin file.
In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin and upload the file.
Activate the plugin.
In the site's connection settings, set Multilingual Plugin (see below). The options are None, WPML and Polylang. For TranslatePress, ask the UP-TO-DATE support team to turn it on for the site.
Important: Site migrations, plugin clean-ups and security hardening often remove or deactivate the handler plugin. If translations stop linking, first check that the plugin is still installed and active.
Changing settings or credentials later
In Accounts, go to Websites > open the website.
Click Edit connection. Company Owners and Admins see this button.
The site's Edit Site Settings window opens. If the list of connected sites shows instead, click Settings on the site's row.
Change what you need and click Save Changes.
Setting | Available for |
|---|---|
Site Name | All sites |
Site URL | WordPress only. Other sites show "URL cannot be changed. Disconnect and reconnect to change URL." |
Username, App Password ("Leave blank to keep current password"), Post Type, Blog Slug Prefix, Multilingual Plugin, Enable ACF Support | WordPress |
Collection URL Path | Webflow |
Content Type, Language Code | Drupal |
For WordPress, the form says URL and credential changes are re-tested when you save. After any change, publish a test post to confirm. Other credentials (a Drupal password, a Webflow, Craft or Wix token, an Odoo API key) have no field here. Contact the UP-TO-DATE support team before you disconnect a site that already has posts, because disconnecting removes its history (see below).
Disconnecting a site
Click the disconnect icon on the site's row. The Disconnect Site confirmation explains that disconnecting also removes the site's posts, schedules and connected social accounts from the platform. Content already published on the website itself is not touched.
